In the 2nd panel you have some light effect but maybe if they were closer and radiated from the center then faded to darker color on sides? Dunno, just a suggestion.

I think the answer lies in more aggressive line fading, which I'll be experimenting with soon.

I was thinking something along the lines of that too. Fade and/or blur lines of things further in the distance to kinda of play on the natural blurring effect water has on human eyes.

Man, I love three-dimensional movement. Not qualified to judge on the lighting/coloring, but the changing camera angles really give a good sense of how they're moving!
