That is... entirely out of left field for me.

View pulls crazy ass twists sometimes. Often involving wacky SCIFI. Just strap in or on and enjoy the ride.
Sheela edit delete reply
The ride is worth it. :)

That is... entirely out of left field for me.

View actually did set this up earlier. Some references might help:

While diving, the group (including Leio) visited a Tiny Undersea Base.

"'s completely isolated. So they love visitors."

"Hey, doesn't the beard guy look familiar?" Today: "Oh, I remember that face, now."

Leio said he was "hunting the last plague doctors." There were two people in the habitat, and Leio recognized beard guy as one of his targets. Maybe the other guy was also a target? It seems likely: Leio said "I found them. I just needed a boat." In particular he needed a "boat with cracked nav that can go to restricted waters."

Why were those guys in an isolated habitat in restricted waters? "I study glass coral." "I'm testing microbes that eat car paint." Maybe they really were doing those things, but it appears to be a witness protection cover story and the real reason they were out there is so that people like Leio wouldn't find them.

We don't know how Leio got into diving. He might have had info about plague doctors hiding in an undersea habitat, and started diving with the intention of finding a way to get to them. It's also possible that it's a coincidence, that he didn't set out to look for plague doctors but recognized them when he saw them, and now he's hunting them since he knows where they are. IMHO, the former theory seems more likely.

By the way, the beard guy also was making unwelcome butt grabs. Cara Sean And his hands got too close to Sean's breasts as well.
RhinocerosGoggles edit delete reply
Sean seems to have an inkling of what's going down.

I wonder if the other guys he was hanging out with are his cohorts?

I am so confused. Are we in a different story with the same characters?
RhinocerosGoggles edit delete reply
View's stories tend to have a plot twist or two. This is probably one of said twists.
RandomTroll edit delete reply
NMTG's twist is me crying on the floor.
WolfePaws edit delete reply
NMTG's twist was heartbreaking.
Kanada (Guest) edit delete reply
the backstory is there, but it's easy to forget this is a post-disaster world
Jinmen edit delete reply
I hope she just has a concussion. I really liked her whole gaining confidence/self discovery arc.
Secretkeeper626 (Guest) edit delete reply
Four barrel pistol? Waste of ammo, really.
ThatGuy (Guest) edit delete reply
For a dinky derringer-style gun?
ArcaneThesis (Guest) edit delete reply
Actually, if it's an electronic gun, that's a pretty standard design.

Essentially instead of being loaded from a magazine, the bullets are preloaded into the barrel one after another, separated by a small bit of gel between each one. The trigger fires an electric pulse that ignites the gel before the foremost bullet, expanding the last bullet as a base to fire from.

It allows for extremely fast multi-barrel firing before recoil kicks in, and can be arranged into essentially boxes of barrels, but that's pretty inefficient.

FYI, this is the gun he's packing:
WolfePaws edit delete reply
Standard firearms tend to jam underwater. Multiple barrels is potentially a good solution in a watery world.
Sheela edit delete reply
If it's in the future, it could be a handheld variant of a metal storm weapon.
captisaac (Guest) edit delete reply

They fire pretty decently actually. It's just the bullets don't go that far.
eire1274 edit delete reply
Automatic breech loaders (that includes semi-auto handguns) get a lot of motion energy robbed from the recoil due to water being much more dense. But a revolver, derringer, or automatic gas loaders (Armalite model 15 [AR-15] or most Kalashnikov [AK] rifles as ex.) function under water pressure to a certain crush depth.
AKira (Guest) edit delete reply
those are underwater specialized weapons, cause underwater gas operated realoading system dont work well and cant really fire more then one shot.
ColdFusion (Guest) edit delete reply
Okay but, at what point did he decide his ruined mission wasn't ruined after all? Cmon guy.
Anyway good for you. Go get those witnessprotected sumbitches.
WhiteAier (Guest) edit delete reply
When he says Plague Doctors turned to witness protection, my guess these are part of the eco-terrorists from another comic. As the big melt was never fully discussed other then big bad nanotech. Leio is either part of that group or a supporter of the group. Which would explain his interest in Alis being there. Also maybe why he'd throw the meds instead of just pulling his gun. If he supports the big melt, he probably thinks that Alis should have died.
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
If this is Jim getting revenge then I'm gonna be so messed up.
view edit delete reply
No, there are no crossover characters.
Guest Numero Trois (Guest) edit delete reply
So, are we just not going to acknowledge how little of a fuck Alis and Sean are currently giving right now?
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
Right? Like I guess Sean is just superhuman chill after that orgasm and Alis is just super stoked to have given it to her or something cuz. I thought those were her medpatches, like the things she needs to live. So she must not either be in very grave/immediate danger, or she just doesn't give that much of a fuck.
WhiteAier (Guest) edit delete reply
I'm not sure about Alis. Could be drugged. For Sean I think it's just her nature. She is hardly going along with it though. You can see her reaching for the gun when Leio is distracted.
Anjon (Guest) edit delete reply
Looks to me like Alis is completely out of it. Maybe the food was drugged? Looked like she was the only one eating.
Jeyne (Guest) edit delete reply
Not a huge fan of the sudden change of tone, feels extremely jarring. But I remain cautiously optimistic.
marmelmm edit delete reply
I dunno. He seemed to draw his gun pretty fast. ;)

Turn left here!
WolfePaws edit delete reply
"Today's pretty stressful."

I guess this explains the performance anxiety.
Sheela edit delete reply
It's weird that he would go through so much trouble just get a boat.
Ogy edit delete reply
That exact thought has been going through my head all day long.
Could all of this been avoided if he had a major credit card to use on a boat rental deposit?
Miao edit delete reply
Alis is so calm and peaceful.

Sub-spaced? More likely meds wearing out.

I like the former though.

And he's gonna get mauled.
Mirrored edit delete reply
Welp, gonna re-read the whole story to try and make any sense out of this plot twist now. See ya!
klondike (Guest) edit delete reply
Poor old bearded octopus. His days left are clearly counted.
Shaylyn-KM edit delete reply
O_O whoa whaaaaaaat. This took a turn. Sean seems to know what's up!
Sheela edit delete reply
ooOoohh .. the Shaylyn .. it's alive!
Shaylyn-KM edit delete reply
Hahaha... I have been a little absent in the comments lately but I've been lurking in the background like a creeper

Lee M
So now he has to get rid of the witnesses...
GCN (Guest) edit delete reply
Hey view, I was just wondering about something. Does Iridium Lake of space pulp have any basing on Friday from Robert A. Heinliens novel Friday, specifically her depiction on the cover of the first edition and her given appearance throughout the book. If you have not read it however, I would reccomend it. It is a very good read
view edit delete reply
No, aside from them both being pretty pulpy.
vivaldi edit delete reply
Oh shit here we go again.

I'm not THAT slow... oh, you mean in the comic, yeah.
