Hm. Thinking about how to host variants. I really want to do Flash-style interactive pages, but that's really annoying.

I bet Cara notices which of the two isn't actually being observant.

Don't kill yourself over it, not everyone can output like Hussie.

It's not a matter of output, it's a matter of Flash being really obsolete. Last time I tried it there were already people who couldn't see it, and that was more than a year ago.

There have always been people who can't see Flash. That by itself isn't a signal of its obsolescence. But I agree it's a bad choice.

Flash isn't obsolete.

It is still primarily being used to present 'unblockable' advertising to web users...even WITH image loading off--which is why flash is used this way. To kill the use of Flash as an advertising medium you have to block the ad servers at the HOSTS file level. Read more about it here:

http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

I've only seen 3 MEMORABLE cases were Flash was used for artistic purposes. Here they are:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/297383

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/demented

http://www.yhchang.com/SAMSUNG_MEANS_TO_COME.html

for completedness here are the YouTube .FLV 'mirrors' of the above:

(Serb-Croatian translation)

This level of artistic creativity is what Flash is capable of when it is NOT used as a slick, polished, but banal advertising medium.

There are plenty of good Flash games and animations, but it's on its way out, especially on mobile devices.

Alis is so sneaky ;-)

So Sean's a little OCD?

A good trait for a future astronaut.

Not sure if I have it right. But I'm enjoying the fact that Alis probably sees this as flirting or getting Sean's attention. While in Sean's mind this is just adding more to the mothering bracket. Probably sees Alis as no better then her little brother she takes care of.

are there any html5 tools out there you can use to host?

Or maybe DeviantArt has some tools you can use...
view edit delete reply

I dunno. I've never programmed anything graphical in HTML5, so I'm not sure how that goes.

I could do it in Ren'Py or Unity, but that's a big thing for a single page or two.

what sort of interaction are you looking for here?

Pardon an old Luddite,
But why not just have a link?
view edit delete reply

I want people to interact with it to get the reward. It's way more interesting, even if it's just like an X-ray magnifying glass.

I'll put up a link if I can't think of a good way to do it, though.

Are you allowed to add custom css/js into the hosting here? I can help you out.

We are. Do you have a tutorial on what I'd need to do?
Aly (Guest) edit delete reply
I can throw something together for you, how can I contact you privately?

The best way would probably be to get a ComicFury account and use the PM. That would also let you create a comic of your own and see how the code injection works.

Uhm, I cannot see anything, aside from the line of text. There's quite a lot of empty space though.

Yeah, something broke. Not sure what. It's continually redirecting me to this page.
RhinocerosGoggles edit delete reply
Oop, logged out. After inspecting the page source, loading the url for each image & reloading the page, the x-ray effect works (for me). Odd?
view edit delete reply
view
No, I figured it out. The file path changes depending on whether you're viewing the specific page or the landing page.
RhinocerosGoggles edit delete reply
Ah. Do you have to rearrange the whole site to fix that? Or build the effect so that it works for each instance? I'm clueless.

Just had to add some "../"s

Wow, that's a neat x-ray effect. It'll be interesting to see what we can reveal!
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
How does this "X-ray" effect work? I've tried highlighting, mousing over, right-clicking, but I don't know how to get the image.
